Introducing Joabie Lovett - Indigenous Artist

Joabie Lovett is a 33 year old indigenous man, of the Gournditchmara clan, who is currently in prison in Ararat, Victoria. While incarcerated Joabie began to paint and draw seriously and has been studying the mystery traditions. His work combines many traditional features of Aboriginal art with the imagery and iconography of other ancient mystery schools, particularly the Egyptian. The result produces interesting and exciting work that, I believe, is quite unexampled in the world of indigenous art.

We have a number of Joabie's paintings here at Lilitu's Books & Music, and will be exhibiting them from Monday March 2nd until NAIDOC week in July.

I have uploaded these photos taken by Joabie's
mum but I have to say, the photos really do not do justice to these amazing paintings - so, if you can get to the shop to have a look, please do. We are open every day.

Feel free to call or email with any questions.

Take care everyone, Lilitu
